Pokemon LeafGreen Sevii Islands: Overview and Unlocks

The Pokemon LeafGreen Sevii Islands are an archipelago that begins as a brief story detour and expands into the game's biggest post-game quest. Bill invites you over immediately after the Cinnabar Gym, and the islands reopen permanently once you enter the Hall of Fame. Seven main islands, supported by smaller islets, hide items, Pokemon, and Team Rocket activity that the Kanto mainland never shows. The islands remain core content in the current Nintendo Switch release of the game.

| Island | Key Locations | Main Content | Pass Needed | | One Island | Pokemon Network Center, Kindle Road, Mt. Ember | Celio's quest, HM06, Moltres | Tri-Pass | | Two Island | Game Corner, Cape Brink | Meteorite delivery, Lostelle setup | Tri-Pass | | Three Island | Three Isle Path, Bond Bridge, Berry Forest | Biker gang battle, Hypno fight | Tri-Pass | | Four Island | Icefall Cave, Day-Care | HM07 Waterfall, Lorelei event | Rainbow Pass | | Five Island | Rocket Warehouse, Water Labyrinth | Final Team Rocket battle | Rainbow Pass | | Six Island | Ruin Valley, Dotted Hole | Sapphire recovery quest | Rainbow Pass | | Seven Island | Trainer Tower, Sevault Canyon, Tanoby Ruins | Optional battles, puzzles, rare Pokemon | Rainbow Pass |

Passes Control Everything

The Tri-Pass only covers Islands One through Three during the story. The Rainbow Pass, earned by delivering the Ruby to Celio after the Pokemon League, opens Four through Seven Island. Both passes are permanent Key Items, so you never need to replace them.

First Visit: One to Three Island Story Walkthrough

Your first Sevii Islands trip is short but required before the Kanto story continues. Follow the three steps below and you will return to the mainland with the Cinnabar arc fully wrapped up.

1

One Island: Meet Celio

After defeating Blaine, sail with Bill to One Island. Talk to Celio inside the Pokemon Network Center to receive the Tri-Pass and the Meteorite. Stop by Ember Spa on Kindle Road and accept HM06 Rock Smash from the hiker inside.

2

Two Island: Game Corner Delivery

Ferry to Two Island and head for the Game Corner. The Meteorite delivery stalls because the owner's daughter, Lostelle, has gone missing, which points the story directly toward Three Island.

3

Three Island: Rescue Lostelle

Clear the biker gang in Three Isle Path, cross Bond Bridge, and search Berry Forest. Defeat the wild Hypno threatening Lostelle, then return to One Island so Bill can sail you back to Kanto.

| Item | Location | Purpose | | Tri-Pass | Celio, One Island | Ferry access to Islands One to Three | | Meteorite | Celio, One Island | Delivery quest item for Two Island | | HM06 Rock Smash | Ember Spa, Kindle Road | Breaks cracked rocks across the islands |

Do Not Overstay

The story visit is brief. Islands Four through Seven stay closed until the post-game, so do not waste time searching for areas that are not yet reachable on your first trip.

Post-Game Quest: Ruby and Sapphire for the Network Machine

After entering the Hall of Fame and upgrading to the National Pokedex, return to Celio on One Island. His Network Machine needs two gemstones, and recovering them is the heart of the Sevii Islands post-game. Bring a team around level 45 or higher, plus plenty of healing items, because Team Rocket fights wait at both ends of the quest.

1

Mt. Ember: Recover the Ruby

Sail back to One Island and climb Mt. Ember. Team Rocket grunts digging near the summit leave behind the Ruby. Hand it to Celio to receive the Rainbow Pass.

2

Four Island: Icefall Cave

Explore Icefall Cave to pick up HM07 Waterfall and find Lorelei confronting Team Rocket. Winning her event weakens the grunts ahead of the final warehouse raid.

3

Six Island: Dotted Hole

Use Cut on the Dotted Hole entrance in Ruin Valley and descend to the Sapphire chamber. A scientist steals the gem before you can leave, revealing a Rocket Warehouse password.

4

Five Island: Rocket Warehouse

Enter the warehouse on Five Island with both passwords, defeat the remaining Team Rocket members, and take back the Sapphire.

5

One Island: Finish the Machine

Deliver the Sapphire to Celio. With the Ruby and Sapphire installed, the Network Machine runs at full power and expanded trading opens for your save file.

Quest Complete

Finishing the Network Machine quest also clears the path to Mewtwo in Cerulean Cave, one of the strongest static encounters in Pokemon LeafGreen. Stock Ultra Balls and status moves before entering.

Island Highlights: Pokemon, Items and Side Content

Beyond the main quests, the islands hold some of the best optional rewards in the game. Prioritize the four picks below before grinding anything else.

Moltres at Mt. Ember

  • Fire/Flying, Lv. 50
  • One-time static encounter
  • Save before the summit fight

HM07 Waterfall

  • Found in Icefall Cave
  • Enables waterfall climbing
  • Required for full cave routes

Trainer Tower

  • Located on Seven Island
  • Timed battle challenge
  • Solid post-game EXP source

Tanoby Ruins

  • Unlocked via Tanoby Key puzzle
  • Wild Unown chambers
  • Pure collection content

| Reward | Island | How to Get | | Moltres | One Island | Static encounter on the Mt. Ember summit | | HM06 Rock Smash | One Island | Talk to the hiker in Ember Spa | | HM07 Waterfall | Four Island | Navigate Icefall Cave | | Sapphire | Six Island | Dotted Hole, then Rocket Warehouse | | Johto Pokemon | Various | Wild encounters after the National Pokedex |

Sevii Islands Completion Goals:

  • Finish the Lostelle rescue on Three Island
  • Deliver the Ruby and earn the Rainbow Pass
  • Recover the Sapphire from the Rocket Warehouse
  • Catch Moltres on Mt. Ember
  • Restore the Network Machine for full trading
Trading Note

Several Johto species only appear across the expanded islands, and version-exclusive Pokemon such as Misdreavus still require trading with FireRed. On the current Nintendo Switch release, trading works through local wireless between nearby systems instead of the original Game Boy Advance link cable.

Sevii Islands FAQ

Q: When do the Sevii Islands unlock in Pokemon LeafGreen?

The first visit opens right after you defeat Blaine at the Cinnabar Gym, when Bill invites you to One Island. Islands Four through Seven require the Rainbow Pass, which Celio gives you during the post-game Ruby quest after you become Champion.

Q: Can I skip the first Sevii Islands trip?

No. Rescuing Lostelle on Three Island is required before the story continues in Kanto, so treat the first visit as a mandatory detour rather than optional content.

Q: What does completing the Network Machine unlock?

Restoring the machine with the Ruby and Sapphire activates expanded trading for your save file and is also a prerequisite for entering Cerulean Cave, where Mewtwo waits at level 70.

Q: Which Pokemon are worth catching on the Sevii Islands?

Moltres on Mt. Ember is the headline catch, while the expanded islands add Johto species such as Sneasel, Mantine, and Misdreavus after the National Pokedex upgrade. Several of these are LeafGreen encounters that FireRed players will need to trade for.
